Live Polling

Overview
  • Live polling allows real time engagement between your speaker(s) presenting and the audience.
  • Create slides into the speaker presentation deck with the polling question and possible answers.
  • These polls are replicated on the CrowdComms platform and at the relevant time are made live for users to vote.
  • Live poll results can be captured and displayed when the speaker is ready to review or shown on the live stream with the results updating as votes are submitted.
  • Common use cases are knowledge check to ensure the audience are paying attention or to get the audiences opinion on an upcoming discussion piece.
  • Live polls includes a multiple choice question where you determine whether users can vote once, can change their vote after submitting a vote or give the ability to vote multiple times.
  • Live polling results are customisable to replicate your event branding and include sponsor logo's where appropriate.
  • Link live polling to an event game by awarding points for each time a user takes part in a live poll or if they get a live poll correct.
  • You can include as many polls as you wish however we recommend limiting the number per session to no more than three (3) live polls. The reason is the speaker has to introduce the poll and take time to expand on the results, value is added through this engagement with the speaker addressing the poll as much as the data captured. You therefore need to allow at least 1 minute for each live poll question.

Advanced Voting

With the arrival of our new Advanced Voting feature, you can enable and disable the right to vote in Live Polls and assign multiple votes to the same user on the same question.

For example, if you're running a live poll during a session and don't require all delegates to vote, you can restrict their access to the poll, not the session itself. By doing this, all attendees can still participate and enjoy the session regardless of whether they have the right to vote.

With Advanced Voting, you can also assign multiple votes to the same user. For example, if one delegate is voting on behalf of another delegate who couldn’t attend the event., you can assign the voting delegate, two votes, one for themselves and one to represent the proxy vote.

Enabling Advanced Voting

  1. Firstly, you will need to log into your CrowdComms Content Management System (CMS) Dashboard and input your details.
  2. Upon successful login, select the Event App where you would like Advanced Voting applied.
  3. Then click on ‘Libraries’ from the left-hand menu.
  4. Click on ‘Live Polls’ which appears as an option in the secondary menu to the right.
  5. If you do not have any polls created, click here to check out a guide on how to add a new poll.
  6. If you already have polls in your Live Polls library, click on the pencil icon to edit the poll to set up Advanced Voting.
  7. To trigger Advanced Voting, click on the ‘Advanced voting features’ button.
  8. You will then see a pop-up modal for ‘Advanced Polling Options’. Turn on the Advanced Voting feature toggle.

To Restrict Users Based on their Voting Rights

  1. The ‘Default votes per user’ field signifies the number of votes a delegate can cast within your Event App. If the majority of your delegates can vote during the event, using the standard voting of one person one vote principle, leave the value to ‘1’.
  2. However, if only a small number of delegates can vote, type ‘0’ in the ‘Default votes per user’ field. When you do this, no one in your delegate list can cast their vote unless they are added to the ‘allowed’ list.
  3. Click ‘Save’ to save the setting.

Setting up Advanced Voting Using the Spreadsheet Template

  1. To set up Advanced Voting, click on the ‘Advanced Voting’ button and in the pop-up modal, click on the Download Voting Allocation template.
  2. Click and open the downloaded file to start inputting your voting data.
  3. In the spreadsheet, you will see 4 columns:
    a.    ID
    b.    Question title
    c.    Personal email
    d.    Total number of votes

Voting Rights - If the default votes per user is ‘1’

  1. If you have assigned the default vote to ‘1’ vote per user, you will want to use the spreadsheet to restrict the other delegates from voting on the poll question or perhaps you want to allow the other delegates to have more than 1 vote (if this is the case, please refer to Proxy Vote setting below).
  2. To restrict other delegates from voting, select the poll question(s) in which the user has no right to vote.
  3. For example, if your poll has two questions, and User A can only vote on Question 1 but not on Question 2, you need to add Question 2 in the Question Title column. To do this, go to your question list on the CMS and click on the context menu and click on the ‘Copy Question Text’ option from the list of dropdowns.
  4. Paste the question into the Question Title column in the spreadsheet.
  5. Then add User A’s email address in the Personal Email column of the spreadsheet.
  6. In the Total number of votes column, key in ‘0’. What this will do is it will restrict user A from voting on Question 2.
  7. On the Event App, when it is time for User A to cast their vote, they will be able to vote on Question 1 once, this is because the default vote set up for this app is 1.
  8. However, User A is prevented from voting or seeing Question 2, because in the spreadsheet we set them to have ‘0’ votes for Question 2.
  9. Repeat the above steps to restrict access to other questions and other users.
  10. Once completed, save the spreadsheet to your device to import it into the CMS Dashboard.
  11. To import the Advanced Voting spreadsheet, click on the ‘Advanced Voting’ button and in the pop-up modal, click on the Import Voting Allocation.
  12. Add your spreadsheet either by dropping the .xlsx file or selecting the file from the saved location performed in step 10.

Voting Rights - If the default votes per user is ‘0’

  1. If you have assigned the default vote to ‘0’ vote per user, you will want to use the spreadsheet to allow the other delegates to vote on the poll questions or perhaps you want to allow the other delegates to have more than 1 vote (if this is the case, please refer to Proxy Vote setting below).
  2. To allow other delegates to vote, select the poll question(s) in which the user has the right to vote.
  3. For example, if User A can vote on the question(s) in the poll. You need to add all the poll question(s) in the Question Title column. To do this, go to your question list on the CMS and click on the context menu and click on the ‘Copy Question Test’ option from the list of dropdowns.
  4. Paste the question to the Question Title column in the spreadsheet.
  5. Then add User A’s email address in the Personal Email column of the spreadsheet.
  6. In the Total Number of Votes column, key in ‘1’. This will enable user A to vote on the question.
  7. On the Event App, during polling, User A will be able to see and cast their vote on the question(s) whilst other delegates who aren’t included in the spreadsheet won’t be able to see or vote on the question(s).
  8. Repeat the above steps to allow access to other questions and other users.
  9. Once completed, save the spreadsheet to your device to import it into the CMS Dashboard.
  10. To import the Advanced Voting spreadsheet, click on the ‘Advanced Voting’ button and in the pop-up modal, click on the Import Voting Allocation.
  11. Add your spreadsheet either by dropping the .xlsx file or selecting the file from the saved location performed in step 9.

Voting Rights - If a user have more than one vote (Proxy Votes)

  1. If you have assigned the default vote to ‘0’ or ‘1’ vote per user, you can use the spreadsheet to enable a selection of delegates to have more than one vote, also referred to as Proxy Vote
  2. To allow a delegate to have more than one vote, select the poll question(s) in which the user can cast proxy votes.
  3. For example, if User A is entitled to vote on a poll for themselves and three others, you need to add all the poll question(s) in the Question Title column.
  6. In the Total Number of Votes column, key in the total number of votes User A is allowed to cast. This will enable user A to vote on the question multiple times based on the total number of votes they are allowed.
  7. On the Event App, during polling, User A will be able to see and cast their vote on the question(s) first for themselves. They are then able to cast proxy votes for others. The vote cast can be varied.
  8. Repeat the above steps to allow access to proxy votes to other questions and other users.
